Back in the day . . . before Title IX, health clubs, girls' athletic teams, equal opportunities . . . we had Parkettes. We had Mrs. Libby - a tougher coach than many of the boys' coaches - and each other.  We travelled together, danced hard together, had each others' backs and, most importantly, had fun together.  If mesh tights tore, someone had an extra pair; after a devestating teenage break-up, someone had a shoulder;  unreasonable parents?  someone had a solution or a way to get away with some mischief.  The experience magnified our time at Park!

Comment: Some of the best years of my life!  I still brag about being a MVC - the one who lead the line in or out - not because I was tall.

Just an fyi - the "Then" photo on the left is me and "a boy" in Malaga, Spain on one of our trips!  Very innocent, but how fun.

Here's a memory:

For those who went to Hawaii in '67 (I think) and took surfing lessons from "Rabbit" on Waikiki Beach - I found him 35 years later!  I was in Hawaii for a meeting, had some free time, and went looking for him after I had read an article on Waikiki Beach in the 60s and he was in the article!  I went back to the Surf Rider Hotel and Moana Hotel area where we took the lessons, and - long story short - there he was watching and judging a surf competition, sitting in a chair.  He was in his early 90s then.  I got so excited I could hardly hold back tears because it reminded me of that time in my life. I called my two sisters (Jill and Jan, also Parkettes) and mom (a Parkette chaperon on that trip), and told them.  Some surfer dude took our picture together.  It's framed sitting on a shelf in my house.

Comment:    When I saw the article regarding Parkettes being removed from the Viking's previous cheerleader roster, I laughed and said, "Now they will have to invite us."
